The ren­o­va­tion of the Grand Hôtel Spa & Tha­las­so in Saint-Jean-de-Luz marks the rebirth of an icon­ic des­ti­na­tion, recon­nect­ing with the spir­it of sea­side liv­ing that defines the char­ac­ter of the resort. The exist­ing archi­tec­ture has been pre­served and rein­ter­pret­ed through a con­tem­po­rary, ele­gant and under­stat­ed approach. Con­ceived as a true retreat, the tha­las­sother­a­py cen­tre cre­ates a direct dia­logue with the beach and the ocean. The spa unfolds as an ode to French roman­ti­cism, inspired by the poet­ic world of Jean Cocteau. Through plays of light and shad­ow, Parisian wood pan­el­ing and dream­like skies, the spaces open into inti­mate alcoves and refined mosaics, invit­ing guests into a moment of pure reju­ve­na­tion. A sen­so­ry and ele­gant immer­sion, fur­ther enriched by a trib­ute to beau­ty inspired by Pierre de Ronsard.

This project by STU­DIO MHNA trans­forms a stone moun­tain house into a con­tem­po­rary fam­i­ly home, where archi­tec­tur­al her­itage and moder­ni­ty bold­ly inter­act. Both respect­ful and rad­i­cal, the work plays with con­trasts: con­crete exten­sions that assert our time, a slate roof that embraces the land­scape and win­dow frames that are accen­tu­at­ed by raw met­al.
